Description

Arrive at Burren Nature Sanctuary, just 1km from the picture postcard seaside village of Kinvara, home of the famous Dunguaire Castle. Meet a staff member at reception who will give you a map. Start your experience by feeding the friendly farm pets. Meet Frisky the feral goat, Frank the orphaned llama and our super wooly sheep! See Emilia, Flora and Dyson the pigs and continue to the ruined famine village. Wander through the magical fairy woodland and continue around the Burren Walk. Look out for our limestone badger and find out about the karst landscape and our rewilded nature reserve. Head across the wild flower meadow and see native orchids (in season) and arrive at the Disappearing Lake. Take a selfie with the giant dragonfly and learn the secrets of this magical turlough. Wander up the romantic ancient boreen and find the 7foot copper Ladies Tresses Orchid sculpture and enjoy listening about the native wildflowers and why this meadow is a seed collecting site for the National Native Seed bank. Finish your tour at the Burren Botany Bubble and enjoy a cup of coffee in the cafe. Browse the local crafts and selection of nature books. Thank you for supporting Ireland's native biodiversity by visiting this special sanctuary. Mini botany introduction by a specialist guide available to book free but must be prearranged. Children's facilities include indoor 4 lane slide and adventure playground with double zip wire.
