At a glance
Cnoc na Gaoithe Comhaltas Cultural Centre is a traditional Irish culture centre on the Hill of Tulla, in County Clare. Its name translates as “Windswept Hill”, reflecting the exposed setting associated with Tulla and the surrounding East Clare landscape. The centre’s focus is the preservation, promotion and presentation of local Irish music, song, dance and language.
Music education forms a central part of the programme, with classes covering tin whistle, flute, accordion, concertina, fiddle, banjo, piano, guitar and drumming. Traditional céilí band drumming and piano tuition that includes traditional accompaniment are also part of the range. Classes are structured for beginners, intermediate learners and advanced students, making the centre suitable for people starting a new instrument as well as those developing existing skills.
The programme extends beyond instrumental music. Set dancing, Irish dancing, jiving, speech and drama, and adult Irish language classes are included among the cultural activities. Irish language tuition is offered at beginner and improver levels, while accordion and concertina classes also include beginner and improver options. The range gives the centre a broad community and learning character, with different ways to engage with East Clare’s traditional arts.
Cnoc na Gaoithe also provides a setting for cultural events connected with Irish music, dance and language. The atmosphere is centred on participation, practice and shared tradition rather than on a restaurant or entertainment-venue format. It suits learners, dancers, musicians and anyone interested in the cultural life of Tulla and East Clare.
The centre is at Chapel Street, Tulla, V95 Y5N5, and enquiries can be made by phone or email. Class schedules and places are arranged through the centre’s published programme. The venue offers a focused introduction to traditional Irish arts in a local setting, with activities spanning performance, language and social dance.
