Step back in time with the Clare Archaeology Centre. Visit the authentically restored Dysert O'Dea Castle and the 25 original archaeology monuments that occupy the grounds surrounding the castle. The Clare Archaeology Centre is housed within the castle, which dates back to the 15th century and was re-opened after restoration in 1986.
Positioned away from the beaten path, the site is a welcome step away from the tourist crowds, which also helps to keep admission costs down (adults = €4, children = €2,50, senior citizens = €3,50). It gives an informative account of medieval Ireland and offers beautiful countryside views, particularly from the top of the castle’s tower. Guided tours of all 25 monuments on the archaeological trail are available by appointment or you can buy a guidebook in the souvenir shop.
The trail is open all year-round and the castle from May to September inclusive.
