Shannon

Ireland's 'newest' town, Shannon is County Clare's second largest town after Ennis. Complemented by Shannon International Airport and the Shannon Free Zone, Shannon was built in the 1960's to support the significant growth being experienced in the area.

Shannon town's proximity to the airport and many of County Clare's tourist attractions including Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Knappogue Castle and Craggaunowen and Limerick City make it an ideal base for tourists. Facilities in the town include the Shannon Leisure and Swimming Club, the Shannon Golf Club, shopping in the town itself and the SkyCourt Shopping Centre and numerous restaurants and bars.


Shannon is also a hugely important industrial location with international companies including Halifax, GE Capital Aviation, Intel and Molex located in the Shannon Free Zone - Ireland's largest multi-sectorial business park with over 120 international corporations. North of the town is the Smithstown Industrial Estate, which houses more than 30 indigenous companies.


Shannon is a great place to stop over on the night of your arrival or the day before you leave. There is plenty of entertainment including a local nightclub and you are just a short hop away from Bunratty Castle and the famous Durty Nelly's Bar and Restaurant. There are also many hotels in the town.
