Atlantic AirVenture is simply a must for any aviation enthusiast visiting Shannon. Located three miles from Shannon Airport, this Aviation Education and Flight Simulation Centre offers a wide range of activities and instructional workshops for both adults and kids, making it the ideal attraction to take families or large groups (in the months of June and July, ACE Academy run a programme aimed at ages 8-12). There are regular shows in the museum and organised events centred around unique aircraft and other aviation events, so it is worth checking the website before any planned visit.
For those who fancy testing their skills in the pilot seat, there are state-of-the-art flight simulators on site (although this attraction has to be booked in advance), with the ‘heavy’ B737NG Fixed Base Simulator especially popular among the braver individuals, as it is used to train real pilots.
