Day Trips in County Clare

County Clare offers so many quick escapes that pack in personality and scenery you won’t forget. If you’ve got just a day, skip the usual and head to Quin’s old castle ruins for a quiet stroll, then pop into the nearby thatched pub for a proper pint and a chat with the locals.

Don’t miss the Burren on a clear day. It’s not all grey rocks; spring wildflowers pop up between the limestone, but timing matters, try May or June. Bring good shoes because the paths can get slippery. And if you fancy a stretch of fresh sea air, the Cliffs of Moher never lose their wow factor, but go early or late to avoid the crowds.

One tip locals swear by: pick up a homemade scone from a village bakery before you set out, nothing beats that with a thermos of tea on the roadside. And if you’re passing through Ennis, swing by the Bookshop on the Corner. It’s a small spot but packed with Clare’s stories and history if you want to grab a unique souvenir. Trust me, day trips here turn out way better when you take a casual pace and leave room for the unexpected.
