Loophead Lighthouse
Countyclare
Visit Clare's most westerly spot and peer out over the wild Atlantic Ocean as you visit Loophead Lighthouse. With a light range of 23 nautical miles, you can enjoy a guided tour of this lighthouse.
The lighthouse was constructed in 1854 and until 1991 was operated and maintained by a keeper. Today it is automatic and is monitored by an attendant and the Commissioner of Lights from their base in Dun Laoghaire.
Loophead Lighthouse is open to the public and visitors can avail of the opportunity to be guided to the top of the 23 metre tour.
There is also an interactive exhibition providing the history of the lighthouse.
Toilet facilities and light refreshments are available on site.
